Rally to Save our State – Thursday, May 22
The fate of Illinois’ state budget will be determined in the next few weeks. In January 2015 the current 5% state income tax will expire creating a fiscal cliff. This will result in massive cuts (nearly $2 billion in cuts) to education funding and vital human services programs if the 5% income tax rate is not extended.
Join fellow advocates in Springfield this Thursday, May 22 at the State Capitol for a rally to maintain the current 5% income tax rate and prevent devastating cuts to human services, education, health care, and public safety. Free bus transportation is subject to availability. For more information on transportation to and from Springfield, contact Denise Gaines at Denise.Gaines@seiuhcil.org or (217) 553-3183. If you are unable to attend the rally, please contact your state legislators (House and Senate) and let them know that more cuts to human services, education, health care, and public safety is unacceptable and that the state should raise sufficient revenue to fund our priorities.
